Cachar National Lok Adalat Records 1,052 Settlements, Rs 13.53 Crore Disposed

A total of 1,052 cases were settled at the National Lok Adalat held across different courts in Cachar district on Saturday (September 12), with disputes involving more than Rs 13.53 crore being disposed of, according to the Cachar District Legal Services Authority.

The National Lok Adalat was organised on September 12 under the initiative of the Cachar District Legal Services Authority. Both pending cases and pre-litigation matters were taken up for settlement.

Among the 1,170 pending cases taken up during the Lok Adalat, 292 cases were settled. The total amount involved in these settlements was Rs 11,16,04,100.

In the pre-litigation category, 760 out of 9,760 cases were settled, involving a total amount of Rs 2,37,64,884.

Together, 10,930 cases were taken up under the two categories, of which 1,052 were settled. The total amount involved in the settlements stood at Rs 13,53,68,984.

The cases included matters related to the Motor Vehicles Act, civil disputes, criminal cases, matrimonial disputes and Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cases. Pre-litigation matters included bank loan recovery, telephone bills and electricity bills, among others.

The District Legal Services Authority said the Lok Adalat mechanism allows cases to be settled through mutual agreement and compromise. This can help parties avoid prolonged litigation and reduce the time and expenses associated with court proceedings.

A National Lok Adalat is an alternative dispute resolution mechanism organised across India to settle pending court cases and pre-litigation disputes through mutual conciliation and settlement. Conducted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, it offers parties a simpler route to resolve eligible disputes without prolonged court proceedings.

Of the 10,930 cases taken up, 1,052 were settled, involving over Rs 13.53 crore. The matters included motor vehicle, civil, criminal, matrimonial and MACT cases, along with bank loan, telephone and electricity-related disputes.
