NRC: 2.8 crores name in the final draft around 40 lakh left out

The wait is over, the final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is out. The draft has 28,983,677 names considered as Indian citizens and around 40 lakh people have been left out of the list. The first draft of the NRC process was released at the midnight of December 31, 2017. Names of around 1.9 crore people out of the total application of 3.29 crore people appeared in the first draft published in December last year.

Here’s how you can check your name in the NRC list.

1: Visit Your NSK (NRC Seva Kendra): You can visit your designated NRC Seva Kendra to check your name in the printed copies of the complete draft. This is a government set up procedure. Now, no need to rush and cause a stampede on July 30, itself, you can visit the Seva Kendra any time between 10 AM in the morning and 4 PM in the evening, any working days starting from July 30, 12 noon to September 28, 2018. Beware of frauds, this process does not need to pay any money to anybody.
2: Check Online: If you want to save yourself the trouble of visiting the Seva Kendra which is certain to be crowded, you can check online. To do that you need to log in to one of the following websites and feed in your ARN Number and other details. Websites are:

3: SMS: All you need to do is pre-register yourself by sending an SMS following the format mentioned below and you will get an SMS shortly after noon on July 30.
To register you need to send an SMS to either 7026861122 or 9765556555 or 7026321133 or 7899405444. The registration format is ARN space ARN number. For example, if your ARN Number is 10185672198000008761 then you need to type ARN  10185672198000008761 and send it to any of the above-mentioned numbers. Please note you can only register for the SMS service before 6:00 PM July 29, 2018.
4: On Demand SMS: If you have not registered yourself for the SMS service before July 29, 2018 then on July 30, you can send an SMS following the same process and get a status of your application through SMS after 12 Noon. The format is, ARN space ARN number. For example, if your ARN Number is 10185672198000008761 then you need to type ARN 10185672198000008761 and send it to either 7026861122 or 9765556555 or 7026321133 or 7899405444. Make sure you do this after 12 noon.
5: Call 24 X 7 toll-free number: If you are in Assam you can call 15107 and if you are calling from outside the state you need to dial 18003453762 to know about the status of inclusion of your name in the final draft. Whenever you call you need to make sure that you have your ARN number and all other details around you.
Remember, as State Coordinator, Pratik Hajela, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, S Lakshmanan mentioned time and again, the final draft is not the end of the road. You will have the right and ample opportunity to object, apply for rectification and appeal for inclusion. The process of which will be informed later by the Government through informatory campaigns.
