An Additional Patwari of the office of Settlement Officer of Cachar and Hailakandi district has been caught red-handed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing. The Additional Patwari, Utpal Kumar Nath was trapped and arrested after accepting two thousand rupees as a bribe for issuing a land-related certificate. He was arrested from his office in Pailapool today by the anti-corruption wing.

Utpal Kumar Nath, an additional patwari of the Office of the Settlement Officer of Cachar and Hailakandi Districts by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Wednesday morning. He was trapped by the anti-corruption wing by tampering the money with chemicals that he was supposed to accept as a bribe. After he accepted the money from the complainant, the vigilance team caught him red-handed and performed the chemical test on him, where he submerged his hands in the chemical solution which turned red.

It was alleged that the said patwari was accepting two thousand rupees as a bribe for individuals to issue them Land Certificates. Accordingly, a complaint was registered by an individual with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption. A team of officers from the directorate reached Cachar to trap the officer and was successful in catching him red-handed.
