Additional SP Karimganj, Partha Pratim Das leads operation to confiscate heroin worth Rs 18 crore; 4 arrested one suffered bullet injuries
A major success for Karimganj Police as a unit led by Additional SP Karimganj Headquarters, Partha Pratim Das has confiscated a huge consignment of heroin. Based on secret tip-off, last night, the team of officials under Das’s guidance installed a Check Gate at Hailakandi – Karimganj border.
As per the intel, the Police officials intercepted the suspected vehicle and started searching it. While the vehicle looked clean at the first search, the Police officials found suspicious closets under the seat in the car.
Using screwdrivers, the Police officials broke the chambers to recover 175 soap cases, each filled with suspected heroin. During the operation, four individuals, Nurul Islam (30), S/O Mainuddin, Vill Ashimganj, Patherkandi, Sahid Ahmed (22) S/O Sarifuddin, Vill Dolgram, Ratabari, Hussain Ahmed Khan (47), S/O Lt. Taslim Uddin Khan, Vill East Tongibari, Ratabari and Zakir Hussain of Patherkandi were apprehended.
As per Karimganj Police, Zakir Hussain confronted the Police and said there is another similar chamber filled with drugs. According to the Police, while on the way to the second said chamber, Zakir Hussain “pushed the Police officials and tried to snatch the service revolver, that is when he was shot in his leg. Hussain is out of danger and is currently under treatment.

“Assam Police continues to cause huge losses to the drug cartels, every single day! Yesterday was no different. Heroin worth at least Rs.18 Crores (2.275 KG) was seized by Karimganj Police, from RK Nagar PS,” tweeted the DGP of Assam Police, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.
Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma too lauded the efforts of the Karimganj Police. He tweeted, “Another breakthrough in @assampolice’s drive against drugs. In a day-long operation,Karimganj Police seized 2.275 kg of Heroin packed in 175 soap cases, hidden in a compartment of a Tata Sumo coming from a neighbouring state. Four accused apprehended.”
