ADGP GP Singh inspects situation in Assam-Mizoram border; locals in Lailapur blocked road
ADGP Law and Order, Assam, GP Singh visited the Barak Valley to inspect the situation in Assam – Mizoram border. He went to the Khulicherra area in Cachar where an LP school operated by the government of Assam was allegedly bombed by the Mizo miscreants.
“Today I discussed the matter with DC Cachar, DIG Southern Range, and SP Cachar. After the discussion I went to Khulicherra where there was an explosion at the school. After inspection, I came to Lailalapur from Vairengate. I visited the additional police posts set up by Mizoram police and we had a discussion with Kolasib SP,” informed Singh.
He added, “Based on what I have gathered so far, it seems like the school was bombed for terrorising locals. That’s why I have directed SP Silchar to lodge a petition to the honorable court under appropriate sections of UAPA Act. From investigations carried out by us so far and also after discussing the matter with Kolasib SP, there’s a possibility of Mizo miscreants being involved in the explosion.”
The locals living on Assam’s side of the border, on the other hand, have launched a massive protest. “Since October 17, the Mizo miscreants with the help of their armed forces have been torturing us. They walk into Assam’s territory and terrorise us. So we have decided unless they withdraw their forces from Assam’s territory and retreat, we will not withdraw the road blockade,” said a local resident.
Many organisations have extended their support to the road blockade. As per the latest report, the blockade continues and hundreds of trucks are parked in Lailapur area.
