All Assam Manipuri Youth Association conducts peace rally in Silchar demanding restoration of peace in Manipur

Thousands of people attended a peace rally in Silchar demanding restoration of peace in Manipur. The peace rally was organised by All Assam Manipuri Youth Association in Silchar. The rally was attended by about 30 groups and organisations belonging to the Manipuri community. The rally started from Malugram’s Manipuri Basti with thousands of Manipuri people holding placards in their hands.

Passing through various streets of Silchar the people attending the rally entered the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and handed over a memorandum. Their only demand is to restore peace in Manipur with the intervention of the Central Government otherwise, the situation in the North East alongwith Manipur will be chaotic.

Speaking to reporters a member of All Assam Manipuri Youth Association said, “Today’s rally is being organised by All Assam Manipuri Youth Association. Our first demand is that the government should completely investigate the complicated case of ongoing violence in Manipur and the perpetrators be brought to book. We can’t compromise with the territorial integrity of Manipur and the boundaries of Manipur cannot be disintegrated under any circumstances.”

He added, “We thank Biren Singh government for war on drugs and deforestation in Manipur. The houses burnt and destroyed in the violence should be compensated by the government. In our opinion, this is not a riot between Meiteis and Kukis, it’s a narco-terrorism violence. We demand immediate disqualification of 10 Kuki MLAs who signed an application demanding separate administration in Manipur.”
