Alleged Affair Leads To Murder Of Panchayat President In Dholai, Wife And Driver Arrested

A sensational case of murder has rocked Rajnagar village under Dholai in Cachar district, where a Panchayat President was allegedly poisoned to death by his wife with the help of her lover. The incident, which was initially believed to be a natural death, surfaced 10 days later (August 20), sending shockwaves across the region.

On August 10, Imran Hussain, President of Kulicherra Rajnagar Gaon Panchayat, had suddenly died after dinner. His family and locals presumed it was due to natural causes or a heart attack. However, suspicion rose later, and it was found that Imran was allegedly murdered by his wife, Rina Begum, and her illicit partner, Biju Ahmed, who was also Imran’s former driver.

Sources said that Imran had earlier discovered the affair between his wife and Biju, following which he had dismissed Biju from his job. On the night of the incident, Imran attended a football tournament as the chief guest, while Biju purchased poison and handed it over to Rina. She allegedly mixed it with his dinner, leading to his death.

Suspicion grew among Imran’s relatives and friends in the days that followed. On Wednesday (August 20) night, some of his close friends reportedly detained Biju and checked his mobile phone. They allegedly found WhatsApp chats and call logs with Rina, exposing the murder conspiracy. Biju was thrashed by them, after which he allegedly confessed that the two had planned to kill Imran to grab his property, wealth and eventually elope.

As news of the shocking revelation spread, angry locals thrashed both Rina and Biju before handing them over to the police. Later, Cachar police arrested Rina Begum, Biju Ahmed at around 2 AM and also detained Rina’s younger brother, sister, and father, making it a total of five arrests in the case.

The incident triggered massive outrage across Dholai. Hundreds of residents gathered at Imran’s residence and later blocked the Silchar–Aizawl National Highway on Friday (August 21), demanding strict punishment for the accused and justice for Imran. Police had to be deployed in large numbers to control the situation.

The case has left the entire region in shock, with locals demanding exemplary punishment for what they described as a “betrayal of trust” and a “heinous crime within the family.”
