Aminul, Parimal, Rajiv Bora, Mukesh Agarwal visit Hailakandi; DC calls for a peace meeting

MLA of Sonai – Aminul Haque Laskar, Minister in Assam Government – Parimal Suklabaidya, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam Rajiv Bora and Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Mukesh Agarwal visited Hailakandi to take stock of situation. Following communal distress in the district, the administration has clamped curfew across the length and breadth of Hailakandi. The Government also disconnected the internet services in all three districts of Barak Valley.

As per latest report, DC Hailakandi Keerthi Jalli has invited intellectuals to attend a peace meeting at 1:00 pm. Sources tell us that DC Jalli, Aminul Haque Laskar, Parimal Suklabaidya, Rajiv Bora, Mukesh Agarwal are expected to attend the meeting.

Meanwhile, Hailakandi resident Jamir Uddin Tapadar has already been declared dead by doctors in Silchar Medical College and Hospital. He got hit by a bullet fired by security personnel to bring the situation under control. Tapadar’s dead body is yet to reach Hailakandi and sources tell us that as a mark of protest, the family decided it won’t receive the dead body.

Mehboob Ahmed Barbhuiya (28), Javed Hussain (27), Ahmed Shaqil Mazumder (29) Dilwar Hussain (35), Javed Ul Haque Miya (25), Nurul Islam (20) years, Shah Alam (22), Aminul Haque (35) Nurul Haque (18) also got injured and are currently being treated in Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

Close to 100 individuals with sticks in their hands marched from Ratanpur Road Sirajpatty to Old Hospital Road point where they vandalised office of a political party setup. The news of violence between two communities started spreading all across the district like a wildfire. Miscreants had set ablaze six motorcycles, one truck, three auto rickshaws, one Maruti 800 car and a couple of e-rickshaws evening in Hailakandi.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Barun Majumder reached the spot with a huge contingent and tried to bring situation under control. That is when the protesting youths started pelting stones towards police officials and CRPF Jawans. To bring situation under control the security officials had to fire at the approaching miscreants where Jamir Uddin Tapadar got shot. Three police officials also got injured in the process.

All this started from Marwari Patti, in Hailakandi, where a group of people allegedly threw stones at a mosque during Jummah prayer. Police officials reached the spot and brought the situation under control after lathi charge and firing tear gas. But, later people gathered and started creating ruckus at SS Road, Old Hospital Road and its nearby areas.
