Another episode of armed dacoity in Cachar district, cash, gold snatched; “Matter under investigation,” Police

A team of armed dacoits entered the residence of a businessman in Katigorah area’s Bhairavpur Part II. Saidur Rahman was sleeping in his house when at around 1:00 am, a stream of armed dacoits broke into their house. According to Rahman, the team had around 15 armed men and they introduced themselves as Police officials.

“Most of them were wearing half-pants and they had their faces covered with gamcha. They tied my hands and asked me to handover Rs 1 crore. They warned if I don’t do so, they will kidnap my children. They had two guns and many sharp weapons with which they were terrorising my wife and children,” said Rahman.

He informed that the dacoits forced the ladies in the house to remove all the ornaments they were wearing. “Earrings, finger rings, necklace and other ornaments were handed over to the dacoits. I run a fishery business and had kept Rs 1,55,000 at home after selling fish. They took the money and eventually left the house after running ruckus for more than an hour,” added Rahmam.

While the team of bulgurs left Rahman’s house, his neighbours started chasing them. “When the dacoits realised that the situation is going out of their hands, they opened fire. Three rounds were shot and the sound scared the neighbours to stop the chase,” informed Rahman.

He has filed a Police complaint and the Kalain In Charge has started the investigation. “We have got the complaint and started our investigation. We have progressed but we won’t share the details at this stage as that might derail the investigation,” said additional SP of Cachar, Partha Pratim Saikia.
