APCC President Bhupen Borah alleges CM of trying to separate Barak Valley, Calls for PM’s arrest for involvement in child marriage
The Assam Pradesh Congress President, Bhupen Borah, led a spirited Youth Jodo Yatra today alongside thousands of Congress workers. The procession, which commenced from Modhura Point, culminated at Rongpur and saw the participation of prominent party figures, including MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and former minister Ajit Singh.
During the Yatra, Bhupen Borah made explosive allegations against the Chief Minister, accusing him of harbouring intentions to separate Barak Valley from Assam. Borah claimed that the unfair removal of two assembly seats in Barak Valley, despite an increasing population, was indicative of the Chief Minister’s indifference to the region. He suggested that the Chief Minister’s insinuation of separate Barak arose due to the discomfort of the Valley’s residents with the BJP because of the controversial delimitation process and hence he wanted to get rid of the region.
Borah also addressed the issue of child marriage in Assam, making a bold suggestion that garnered sensation. He called for the arrest of the Prime Minister, citing his involvement in child marriage, as a means to send a stern message to the nation and deter individuals from marrying minors.
The allegations and statements made by Bhupen Borah have injected fresh energy into the political discourse in Assam, setting the stage for further debates and discussions on these critical issues. The Chief Minister has not yet responded to these allegations, and reactions from various political quarters are awaited.
