ASHA worker in Silchar allegedly cheated out of her job; substituted by “outsider”
Rabiya Khatun Laskar, an ASHA worker at Borkhala Primary Health Centre, alleged on Wednesday that she was cheated out of her job by officers in the NHM department. Rabiya has asked for help from Assam CM, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma through the media.
Rabiya Khatun Laskar is a resident of Pechador village in Silchar’s Ramnagar GP. Reportedly, she had long been working as an ASHA Worker at Pechador Anganwadi Centre – 230. Rabiya informed the media on Wednesday, “Supervisor Mission Nath asked me to resign as he believed that I was over-aged”. Rabiya has alleged that the NHM officials, BPM Samim Ahmed Choudhary, BCM Rezaul Haque Laskar and Supervisor Mission Nath made her to sign a blank page on the condition that Rabia’s daughter will substitute her. “However, the job was later offered to another woman, who is not a resident of the area”, added Rabia.
These allegations by Rabia are raising a serious question against the NHM department. Is there a syndicate of illegal jobs in the department for the recruitment of ASHA workers in return of money? It should be mentioned here that a sobbing Rabiya has denied to give up. She is now voluntarily carrying out her duties with the love and support of the local people.
