Ashish Haldar resigns from BJP; Confirms he’ll contest independently

Yesterday, BJP’s general secretary Arun Singh announced the names of the candidates who will contest in the upcoming general elections to the Assam Assembly.

For Sonai, as anticipated, Singh announced that the party will field deputy speaker Aminul Haque Laskar.

It is worth mentioning here that a senior member in BJP, Ashish Haldar had written to the party’s leadership seeking ticket to contest from Sonai. As the party did not consider his request, Haldar has now resigned as the primary member of the party.

He has written to the Cachar president, “Myself Ashish Haldar, an active mernber of BJP, Cachar. I have been dedicatedly doing the party works since 1999. In 2016 Assembly Election, I sought ticket from BJP to contest in Sonai LAC. Similarly this year (2021) also, I applied for the party ticket from the same constituency. But unfortunately, inspite of working so seriously and dedicatedly for so long, the party didn’t had any faith on me and I have not been given the opportunity to contest.”

He added, “Therefore, I hereby resign from the primary membership of the party with so much grief and pain.”

Sharing the letter with Barak Bulletin, Haldar confirmed that he will contest in the upcoming election independently against the candidate fielded by his former party.
