Assam and Mizoram officials meet at Lailapur to discuss interstate border issues 

Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Rohan Kumar Jha, Superintendent of Police, Ramandeep Kaur led a contingent and met their counterparts in Lailapur, the ground Zero where six Assam Police personal were killed by forces of Mizoram on July 26, 2021. 

This meeting was organised as a part of the agreement the two states signed to find amicable solutions to long-going border dispute. Ministers of Assam, Ashok Singhal and Atul Bora went to Aizawl twice after the bloodbath on July 26. Their counterparts in Mizoram gave them a warm welcome on both the occasions and assured all possible cooperation in solving the border issues. Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma also met Pu Zoramthanga, the Chief Minister of Mizoram in Delhi.

Among the resolutions the two parties signed on August 5, one was that the Police and Civil administrations will meet each other regularly. “This was as per the 5th august 2021 minutes of the meeting. Routine exercise to discuss interstate border issues and resolve them through dialogue,” shared Rohan Kumar Jha, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, after the meeting.

Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur added that “It was a successful first step in the direction of resolution of the matter.”

Kolashib SP Valnalfaka Ralte, who himself was present on ground zero on July 26, 2021, too attended the meeting. Sharing his reaction with Barak Bulletin, SP Ralte said, “Police forces of the two states have adjacent camps and it is important that both the formation share a good relationship. Today’s meeting was a very fruitful one. It was a step ahead in following the resolution the ministers of the two states have signed.”
