Assam CM’s Plea: Try and Avoid Selling Fish and Meat on Ram Mandir Pran Pratishta Day

On Sunday, January 21, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam held a press conference, appealing to business owners to refrain from selling fish and meat until 4:00 pm on the occasion of the Pran Pratishtha of Lord Ram at Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir.

During the press conference, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma outlined several appeals to enhance the auspicious celebration for the people. Government institutions across the country will remain closed until 2:30 pm, in Assam and across the nation.

CM Sarma urged individual private business owners to also close their establishments during the Pran Pratishta time, allowing employees to partake in the celebration. He emphasized that this occasion is not just a victory for Hindus but for Indian civilization, marking the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya after 500 years.

Expressing gratitude, he requested people to illuminate their houses and gates to welcome Lord Ram. He acknowledged those who participated in the cleanliness drive at religious sites, extending the recognition to various Churches and Mosques that also took part.

All religious institutions, including Temples, Churches, and Mosques, were encouraged to organize special prayer sessions. Additionally, CM Sarma announced the closure of schools and other educational institutions for the entire day on January 22.

During the press conference, he appealed to fish and meat vendors to abstain from selling meat until 4 pm on the auspicious day, citing they are welcome to resume sales after that time. Generally meat and fish are considered Tamasic or destructive to human health in Hindu tradition, and during such auspicious occasions consumption of such foods are usually avoided.
