Assam Congress in shambles; Suspends South Karimganj MLA Siddique Ahmed for wasting his vote instead of casting in favour of Ripun Bora

Congress MLA are supporting the BJP candidate by wasting their votes in the biennial election to council of States from Assam. Instead of writing “1” and voting in favour of Congress’s Ripun Bora, South Karimganj MLA Siddique Ahmed has written “One” and wasted his vote.

Former Minister in Assam Government, Siddique Ahmed is seasoned enough to know the voting protocols in such elections and so, it is obvious that he has intentionally worked against the interests of the Indian National Congress a party that fielded him as a candidate.

Irked by his conduct, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has initiated action against him. In an order issued by APCC, it is stated, “It has been reported by Shri Prithviraj P. Sathe, Secretary AICC, Co-Incharge Assam PC and Authorised Election Agent of Indian National Congress sponsored candidate Shri Ripun Bora for the Biennial Election to council of states from Assam, that Shri Siddique Ahmed, MLA, Karimganj South has deliberately disobeyed the THREE LINE WHIP issued by Shri Wazed Ali l Choudhury, Chief Whip, Assam CLP in regard to Rajya Sabha Election held today i.e. 31st March 2022 at Assam Legislative Assembly.”

The APCC order adds, “As per the guidelines laid down in the constitution of Indian National Congress, Shri Siddique Ahmed, MLA, Karimganj South has violated the order. While casting his vote in the ballot paper, he intentionally wrote ONE instead of writing 1.”

“In view of the above, Hon’ble President Assam PC, Shri Bhupen Kumar Borah has suspended Shri Siddique Ahmed, MLA, Karimganj South from the primary membership of Congress Party with immediate effect for violating party discipline,” the order concludes.
