Assam-Manipur Border Village Sends Message of Resilience in Silver Jubilee

In a joyous celebration, the villagers of Lungthaojang Rongmai in Lakhipur commemorated 25 years since the founding of their village in January 1999. The event’s theme, “Beam out your identity,” resonated throughout the Silver Jubilee celebration held on Wednesday, January 24.

The villagers organized a grand event where they welcomed special guests, including Lakhipur MLA Kaushik Roy, represented by his PA Dipayan Deb, Sanjay Kumar Thakur, The President of Tea Tribe Development Council Cachar and few others.

Speaking to the media, local residents shared their journey of resilience over the past quarter-century, highlighting the absence of basic amenities such as water supply, road connectivity, and electricity. Despite the challenges, the villagers remain steadfast in their commitment to their home.

Located on the Assam-Manipur border, Lungthaojang Rongmai is home to hundreds of families who celebrated the milestone with unwavering enthusiasm. Traditional felicitation ceremonies greeted the guests in accordance with the village’s cultural practices.

The event witnessed the presence of village leader Kangsung Rongmai, alongside village secretary Gautuilung Rongmai, Speaker Sengailung Gengmai, and other community leaders. Drawing a crowd of over 500 people, the festivities included various cultural activities, a rare occurrence in the region.

Expressing their gratitude for the celebration, the villagers took the opportunity to voice their concerns to the government. They emphasized the urgent need for basic facilities, hoping for swift resolution to the challenges they face in their daily lives.

The Silver Jubilee celebration served as a testament to the resilience and unity of the Lungthaojang Rongmai villagers, sending a message of hope for a brighter future with improved living conditions.
