Assam Police Lance Naik Attempts Suicide at Junitila Police Reserve, Slits Throat and Genitals using Bayonet

In a shocking incident, an Assam Police Lance Naik (LNK), identified as Jagatjyoti Dey, attempted to take his own life at the Junitila Police Reserve in Karimganj last evening. Initially perceived as a mysterious accident, it has been revealed that Dey slit his throat and private parts using the bayonet of his service rifle in a distressing suicide attempt.

The incident occurred around 7:00 PM yesterday when fellow police personnel discovered Dey bleeding profusely. In response to the critical situation and the delay in ambulance arrival, they promptly transported him to the Karimganj Civil Hospital using a police vehicle. Due to the severity of his condition, Dey was subsequently referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for advanced treatment.

Karimganj SP, IPS Partha Protim Das, in a statement on the incident, said “Yesterday, around 7:00 PM, LNK Jagatjyoti Dey, currently attached to Junitila Police Reserve Magazine, attempted to commit suicide by cutting his throat and private parts using the bayonet of an INSAS rifle. Due to severe bleeding and delay in the arrival of the ambulance, he was brought to Karimganj Civil Hospital via a police vehicle and provided immediate care. He has been referred to SMCH Silchar and is currently en route to Silchar via an ambulance. His family has been informed about the incident and is on their way to SMCH Silchar.”

Preliminary reports by the Karimganj Police indicate that family problems may have driven Dey to this extreme action. Dey’s responsibilities included managing rifles, magazines, and ammunition at the Junitila Police Reserve. As of now, Jagatjyoti Dey is receiving treatment at SMCH Silchar, and his condition remains critical.
