
Assam Police Lance Naik Ends Life With Service Rifle At Mahadevpur Watch Post
A tragic incident unfolded on Friday afternoon (October 10) at the Second Line Defence Mahadevpur Watch Post in Cachar, where a jawan of the 6th Assam Police Battalion allegedly shot himself dead with his service rifle.
The deceased has been identified as Lance Naik Rupul Barman, aged 41, a resident of Dolu village under Borkhola constituency.
According to sources, Barman reportedly shot himself in the head with his service rifle inside the barracks. Hearing the gunshot, fellow jawans rushed to the spot and found him lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately taken to Kalain Hospital, where doctors declared him “brought dead”.
Following the incident, the Kalain Police, led by the Officer-in-Charge, arrived at the hospital. Later that evening, the Circle Officer conducted an inquest. The body was subsequently sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for post-mortem examination.
Barman is survived by his mother, wife, a five-year-old son, and a one-year-old daughter. It remains unclear whether he died of financial constraints, work pressure, or any other reason. His family members were left inconsolable after receiving the devastating news.
