Assam Rifles in association with Cachar Police recovers explosives in Katigorah
Based on specific military intelligence, an operation was launched on February 3, 2021, (today) at 6:30 am. 37 Assam Rifles along with Cachar Police deployed at Gumrah Checkpost under Katigorah Police Station launched the operation near Gumrah – Malidor interstate border area.
Based on the secret tip-off provided by the source, suspected white Maruti WagonR, Registration No ML 05 N 5372 was stopped and searched in which a huge amount of detonators and gelatin sticks were recovered. The person with the consignment tried to escape from the area but they were nabbed by security forces at 9:00 am informed the sources in the Assam Rifles.
Two individuals have also been detained by the security forces and handed over to the Katigorah Police. The two have been identified as 51-year-old Bison Paslein son of late Donbor Suja a resident of Sohkymphor, East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya. His companion 43-year-old Welcom Lyngdoh is also a resident of the same area in Meghalaya.
The 37 Assam Rifles informed that 600 numbers of No.33 Electric Detonator, 540 numbers of Gelatin Explosive, Rs 11,200 cash, two mobile phones, Maruti WagonR, and one Aadhar Card have been seized.
During the interrogation, the duo revealed that they were smuggling the items worth Rs 12 lakh to some unknown person in Katigorah. The interrogating officers noted that the duo is hiding the name of the person they were delivering the items to.
According to sources, the 37 Assam Rifles, in its report stated, “Intention of carrying such amount of detonator in CI sensitive area needs further investigation by a suitable agency.” The report, according to sources, added, “In view of coming elections in Assam its malicious use is quite possible.”
