A bunch of young individuals claiming to be members of the Bajrang Dal had entered the Presbyterian Church complex near Oriental School in Silchar. They went on to manhandle people in the Church and later shut the gate of the religious institution. Their argument was that they have no problems with Christians celebrating Christmas and visiting the Church but why should the Hindus click photographs with the X-mas tree.

With pride, they narrated their actions on camera for the press to report the same. The ruckus they created inside the Church premises did not go unnoticed. After Barak Bulletin reported the incident and other networks with a strong presence in central India followed up, the pressure started mounting on Assam Police to act.

Former Finance Minister of India, P Chidambaram himself commented on the same and urged the Prime Minister of India to direct Assam’s Chief Minister to take action against such actions.

Moments after Barak Bulletin published the report, Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Ramandeep Kaur said the Police is looking into the matter. First, the Police identified two individuals and summoned them for interrogation.

Police sources confirmed that no complaint has been registered in any of the Police Stations. However, Police started proceedings under Section 107 in The Code Of Criminal Procedure. This section is imposed as security for keeping the peace in other cases.

As a part of the proceedings, Cachar SP informed that so far, six individuals have been detained for interrogation. Two individuals were detained yesterday and four more have been identified and detained today. It has been confirmed that there are minors among those who have been detained so far.

Police sources also informed that if no complaint is registered then a suo moto case will be registered against those who created the ruckus inside the Church on December 25 in Silchar.
