The Barak River Safari, a second community-based ecotourism initiative in Barak Valley, was inaugurated today by Honorable MLA Sri Kaushik Rai at the inaugural event in Jirimukh under the Lakhipur Forest Range. In his speech, the Honorable MLA emphasised the importance of community-based ecotourism, which benefits both the local community and the forest.

The Barak River Safari is now open for bookings at www.visitBorail.org or through phone calls at +91 6901-954091. The safari starts from the Lakhipur Forest Range Office at 10 am and takes tourists to Jirimukh, the confluence of the Jiri River and Barak River, in approximately one hour.

Today’s event was attended by various prominent officials from Cachar district and forest officials from Barak Valley divisions. The members of the EDC (Eco-Development Committee) also had the opportunity to showcase their cultural talents, such as their expertise in bamboo dance, during the opening ceremony.

During the safari, tourists can enjoy the serene beauty of the Barak River at Jirimukh, while being treated to lunch by the Jhorkhal and Kafakhal community members. Additionally, visitors can partake in a small trek through the bamboo grove or try swimming in the Barak River. Post lunch, the cruise will take them to NarainDhar temple, and after the temple visit, the visitors will be dropped back at the Lakhipur Range Forest Office.

The unique selling proposition (USP) of the Barak River Safari is the unmatched beauty of the Barak River at Jirimukh, which city dwellers need to see to truly appreciate. Furthermore, every visit to the safari will generate revenue that will directly benefit the local villagers, ultimately contributing to the protection and conservation of the area.
