Barak Valley Sees Steady Polling, Sribhumi Records 58.60% Turnout Till 1 PM

Assam records 59.63% voter turnout till 1 PM. The Barak Valley districts also witnessed steady voter participation as Assam recorded an overall turnout of 59.63% till 1:00 PM in the ongoing Assembly elections. Polling Begins Across 31,490 Polling Stations of Assam for 2.50 crore voters early on Thursday morning and will continue till 5 p.m. across 31,490 polling stations in 35 districts. A total of 2.50 crore people, including 1.25 crore women and 318 from the third gender, are eligible to vote.

Among the three districts, Sribhumi reported around 58.60% turnout, closely followed by Cachar at 58.01%, while Hailakandi recorded a comparatively lower 54.00%.

In Cachar, Katigorah led the turnout chart with 62.64%, followed by Sonai (59.92%), Borkhola (59.75%), and Lakhipur (59.01%). Silchar saw relatively lower participation at 53.27%, while Udharbond recorded 56.02% and Dholai stood at 55.30%.

Polling remained largely peaceful across the valley, with voters continuing to arrive at booths to cast their votes.
