BDF demands All India Olympic Association to create a separate Olympic board for Barak
For the past few days, the officials of Assam Olympic Association in Guwahati have been unnecessarily snooping on the sports field of Barak Valley districts including Silchar DSA and creating various obstacles. In view of this, the Barak Democratic Front demanded the formation of a separate Olympic Board for Barak.
In a press release, BDF Chief Convenor Pradip Dutta Roy said that when the Silchar DSA started taking significant steps in the sports field with the initiative of Babul Hore and Bijendra Prasad Singh, the unnecessary intervention of officials from Guwahati is hampering it. He said although they are not directly associated with DSA, such behavior cannot be accepted as it will have a negative impact on the sports field of Barak. The DSA authorities recently convened a general meeting and decided to form a new board. But Assam Olympic Association president Lalit Kowar overruled the decision and ordered the formation of an ad hoc committee. Dutta Roy said that there is no initiative on the part of Guwahati for the development of sports in Barak Valley nor is there any allocation. But still this kind of unethical snooping is going on, which needs to be protested at all levels.
The BDF Chief Convener also said that these matters did not exist during the tenure of Santosh Mohan Dev or Gautam Roy. The sports organisers had full freedom to take decisions. But the immoral activities have increased since the BJP government came to power. In this context, he also said that a few days ago, the former speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Aminul Islam, called DSA president Babul Hore and said that on the instructions of the then Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, he should resign immediately because Rajdeep Roy was nominated for this post and Kaushik Roy was appointed as the Secretary. Doubting such an order, Dutta Roy personally called Sarbananda Sonowal, following which the then Chief Minister made it clear that he had not given any such order regarding Silchar DSA. As this conversation was published in the media, the conspiracy of the Silchar leaders was thwarted.
Dutta Roy said that unnecessary politics in the field of sports is in no way desirable. So a separate board should be formed for Barak Valley under the All India Olympic Association. Because there is no shortage of talent in Barak Valley. With the right sponsorship, the players here will be able to show their talent at the national and international level, which has been proven many times over.
Convener Hrishikesh Dey informed this news in a press release on behalf of BDF Media Cell.
