BDF Urges Swift Justice for Muslim Boy Beaten by Miscreants for Alleged Love Jehad

A Muslim boy, Ali Ahmed, was allegedly beaten by a group of miscreants in front of Narsingpur Swarnalokhi High School on Independence Day, 15 August 2024. The incident occurred when Ali was conversing with an old Hindu classmate near the school gate. The attackers reportedly questioned his name and then brutally assaulted him, accusing him of love jehad.

The attack was so severe that Ali started bleeding from his nose, mouth, and ears. Despite the injuries, the attackers filed two complaints against him at the Sonai Police Station. As a result, Ali Ahmed is currently being held at the station.

The Barak Democratic Front (BDF) visited Ali’s home in Kajidahar and met with his family, calling for his immediate release and demanding that the culprits be punished. BDF convenor Ainul Haque Mazumdar stated that the girl had informed the police that she and Ali were merely friends and were having a normal conversation, leaving no room for suspicion.

Ainul Haque Mazumdar expressed his confidence in the judiciary, hoping that based on the girl’s statement, Ali would be granted bail soon. He mentioned that Ali’s family is impoverished and relies on farming for their livelihood, making the incident all the more unfortunate. He also claimed that members of the Bajrang Dal are suspected to be involved, which he said was not surprising given their history of such incidents in the region.

Kalparnab Gupta, Chief Convenor of the Barak Democratic Youth Front, expressed shock and dismay at the incident, stating that it is normal for a Muslim boy to talk to his Hindu classmate. He criticised the growing trend of lawlessness in the region, where extremist Hindu groups are taking the law into their own hands.

Gupta also questioned the police and administration’s role, highlighting that Ali is being detained while none of the attackers have been arrested. He emphasised that the aim of such extremist groups is to create division and disrupt communal harmony in Barak Valley, which the democratic and peace-loving citizens of the region cannot accept.

The Barak Democratic Front condemned the incident and called on the authorities to arrest those involved and ensure they receive exemplary punishment. The BDF warned that they would organise further protests if justice is not served.
