Biswa Sarma’s message to Dilip Paul; Support Dipayan instead of contesting as an independent candidate

NEDA Chairman Himanta Biswa Sarma is in Silchar. What has been termed as an unplanned visit, the finance minister of the state boarded a special chartered flight and reached Silchar to address a gathering of Karyakartas.

Sarma during his speech evoked nationalistic sentiments and said that the condition of Barak Valley is not that good. “To save India in Barak Valley, to save Sanatan Dharma in Barak Valley, the only way is Unity. Stop Badaruddin Azmal from ruling Barak Valley by staying united. They have already raised Pakistan Zindabad slogan in Barak Valley and if they win the election, the result won’t be good,” asserted Sarma during his speech.

The claim that AIUDF cadres raised Pakistan Zindabad slogan is being investigated by Cachar Police. However, more than three months have passed and no arrests have been made. It is yet to be confirmed by the Police if indeed such slogans were raised.

From his speech, it became clear that he realised there is a difference of opinion in the party and he is here to control the damage. While Kabindra Purkayastha has alleged him of fake promises, Silchar MLA Dilip Paul collected the nomination form to contest as an independent candidate.

“Silchar MLA Dilip Paul worked well for the party, however, the leadership decided against fielding him. Instead, the ticket has been handed over to Dipayan Chakraborty. It is my request to Dilip Da to support the party’s decision instead of contesting against party’s candidate. I urge him to be with Dipayan Chakraborty while he goes to submit his nomination. Not only that, I request him to be there with Dipayan throughout the campaign and secure victory for the candidate from Silchar,” said Himanta.

Sarma game Rajdeep Roy’s example in his message to Dilip Paul and said, “Rajdeep did not quit the party and contest as an independent when wasn’t given the ticket in 2016. Today he is the MP.”

Taking a jibe at the party’s leaders who are now rebelling, Sarma said that no individual is bigger than the party and no party is bigger than the nation. His high decibel speech blended with energy and a dose of motivation was delivered with the intention to rejuvenate the party workers.

He has appealed to the karyakartas to work hard unitedly and secure victory for Dipayan Chakraborty by a margin of 60,000 votes. The decibel level of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” kept rising as he progressed with his speech. Though his entire speech was in Assamese, respecting local sentiments, he concluded by saying. “Abaar Dekha Hobe”.
