BJP candidate Pratima Sahu’s brother-in-law owned Tata Ace detained with crates of Alcohol; Congress smell foul play

Late night drama in Duarbond area. A Tata Ace vehicle loaded with crates of alcohol was apprehended at about 10:30 PM near dak bungalow turning. Congress party-workers were busy charting a plan as senior party leaders are supposed to visit the area in next couple of days, “That is when we got a tip that BJP candidate is distributing alcohol to the voters while urging them to stamp on the lotus,” says Surajit Mishra, secretary district Congress committee.

As per the seizure list, 20 crates each carrying around 100 bottles were detained from the Tata Ace Vehicle. After running the number plate AS 11 BC 7057 we found out from VAHAN website of the government of India that Manoj Sahu is the owner of the vehicle. Now, as per sources and Mishra, Manoj Sahu is the brother-in-law of Pratima Sahu, AP member candidate from Darbi GP. “This shows that BJP does not have any ethics left in the party. This incident took place just kilometers away from Minister (Environment and forest, excise and fishery) Parimal Suklabaidya’s house and clearly depicts what he and his party stand for,” adds Mishra.

Police officials reached the spot and seized the crates, vehicle and took the driver along. The acquisition from the Congress cadres is that there were close to 200 crates of alcohol loaded in the vehicle, “When we got to know about this we started setting a trap to detain the vehicle and expose BJP’s dirty tactic before the election. When the driver saw us standing on his way, he turned away and started heading towards a different direction. We believe he unloaded a lot of stuff before getting caught and we want to know where did he unload the crates filled with liquor and who received it from him,” adds Mishra.

This incident just days ahead of Panchayat polls is certainly going to be one of the talking points in the final stages of campaigning. For now, it is the officials’ prerogative to find out if there was a breach of model code of conduct.
