BJP Leader Anup Kumar Paul Accused of Land Grabbing, Threatens Bloodshed

A BJP leader and former president of Lakhipur Gaon Panchayat, Anup Kumar Paul, has been accused of illegally grabbing land in Kalain. The victims, Abani Mohan Das and Amit Kumar Das, filed an FIR at Kalain Police Station, claiming that Paul, along with local goons, tried to seize their ancestral property and threatened them with violence if they resisted.

The disputed land, located in Lakhipur Pt-II and Sewti Pt-III, has reportedly been a point of conflict for several years. According to the victims, Paul initially approached them with promises to help resolve their land disputes. However, they allege that he later tried to occupy the property for himself.

The FIR states that on Thursday night, Paul, along with his associates, brought trucks to the disputed site and began filling the land with earth without the owners’ consent. When the owners confronted them, Paul allegedly threatened them with bloodshed if they attempted to stop the work.

“Anup Paul promised to help us settle the land issues, but instead, he’s now trying to take over our property,” said Abani Mohan Das. He added, “After my elder brother passed away, we faced many issues regarding this land. Paul was initially helping us, but now it seems he wants to grab the land for himself.”

The complainants further claim that Paul, who holds influence as a BJP leader, has been using his political connections and local goons to pressurise them. Amit Kumar Das said, “He threatened us publicly, saying there will be bloodshed if we resist. We feel unsafe in our own village.”

Following the complaint, Kalain Police acted promptly and halted the earth-filling work at the site. A police officer confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and assured the victims of a fair inquiry into the matter.

The victims said they are unable to use, sell, or even resolve the issue concerning their property due to Paul’s repeated interference. “We have no peace. He keeps promising meetings to resolve the matter, but nothing ever happens. Instead, he’s trying to take over the land,” said Das.
