BJP’s Kisan Morcha Guwahati Secretary and two others arrested in Silchar; Burmese Supari syndicate

When all-out raids are going on all across Silchar, a truck with 125 sacks of Burmese Areca Nut entered Assam from Mizoram through Lailapur check gate yesterday. When the truck with 10,000 kilograms of Burmese Supari reached Lailapur, the officials on duty stopped the truck and asked for documents.

Prabir Paul, a resident of Guwahati, who identifies himself as the general secretary of Kisan Morcha at BJP Assam Pradesh, furnished some documents to the Police. According to sources, he said he has paid GST, Custom’s Duty and has procured all documents necessary to legally transport the consignment from Mizoram. He admitted that the truck was loaded at Mizoram – Myanmar border in Champai.

However, the Police detained the truck and started investigating the documents. The officials also detained Prabir Paul, Subrata Dey of Hojai, and Cachar District’s Sanam Uddin Khan. After investigation, the Police found that all the documents produced were either forged or inconclusive.

“First of all, none of the produced documents were issued against any of their names. The documents produced were in the name of a Mizo person who was not there anywhere along with them. Secondly, the documents were all photocopies with some signatures on them which could prove nothing. Based on these aspects, they were arrested and produced before the honourable court today. The court has forwarded them to the jail,” informed a senior police official who is involved in the investigation.

It comes as astonishment that a man who claims to be an active member of the BJP’s Assam Pradesh unit dared to transport a huge consignment of illegally smuggled Burmese nuts. This also exposes the involvement of political affiliates in this several crore scam.
