BJP’s Nihar Ranjan Das Files Nomination for Dholai Seat, Confident of Victory
Nihar Ranjan Das, BJP candidate for the Dholai constituency, submitted his nomination papers on Wednesday, accompanied by thousands of party workers and supporters. The event, which took place after a massive rally at the Silchar Town Club grounds, saw the presence of senior BJP leaders, including Assam Pradesh BJP in-charge Hirish Divedi, Guardian Minister of Cachar, Jayanta Mallah Baruah, and MPs Parimal Suklabaidya and Kripanath Mallah, along with all BJP MLAs from Barak Valley.
Minister Jayanta Mallah Baruah expressed strong confidence in Das’s victory, stating that this election would bring an even larger mandate for the BJP than the last Assembly polls. “In our party, the nation comes first, then the party, and lastly, our people.” Highlighting their commitment for the nation. While taking a dig at Congress, he stated, that the Congress has a history of dividing Assam, he highlighted that Assam once was larger and then it was divided in 7 parts.
Addressing the media after filing his nomination, Nihar Ranjan Das said he was unafraid of the Congress or independent candidate Amiya Kanti Das, whose candidacy, he claimed, would not affect his campaign. He predicted a victory margin of at least 50,000 to 60,000 votes. “This time, we are certain of a bigger win,” he confidently stated.
Das also responded to allegations raised by Amiya Kanti Das regarding his nationality, dismissing the claims that he had Bangladeshi roots. He refused to give such statements any importance, saying, “I have no intention of commenting further on this issue.”
He clarified that although he resides in Silchar due to his profession as a lawyer, he is not an outsider to the Dholai region. “I was registered as a voter in Irongmara, back in 2004, and I completed my initial schooling here,” Das explained. He added that he even served as a teacher at Irongmara High School before pursuing his legal career.
The BJP candidate emphasised that his connection with Dholai runs deep and that his focus is on continuing the development work started by former MLA Parimal Suklabaidya. Das reiterated his commitment to improving infrastructure, education, and other public services in the region.
With the election drawing near, Nihar Ranjan Das remains confident in securing a strong mandate, riding on the support of his party and the work already done by the BJP in the Dholai constituency. He stands against Congress’s Dhrubojyoti Purkayastha and the former BJP leader Amiya Kanti Das, who left the party recently and now is running for the Dholai seat as an Independent Candidate.
