Bomb Explosion Near Jandu Constructions Office in Katigorah; Police Suspect Ransom Call Link

An alleged gelatin-based explosion shook the Tarinipur area of Katigorah, Cachar, on Wednesday afternoon. The blast occurred in front of the project office gate of Jandu Constructions, a company engaged in the Bharatmala road project. While no casualties were reported, a tree was damaged in the incident.

The bomb went off at around 4 PM on March 19 in Tarinipur Part 3, as per a local worker. He suspects that a remote controller was used to detonate the bomb, as none was seen nearby during the time of the explosion. This also resulted in no casualties or injury. A tree was damaged by the explosion.

Cachar Superintendent of Police (SP) Numal Mahatta, speaking to Barak Bulletin, confirmed that the bomb was not of high intensity. “It’s a gelatin-based bomb,” he said from preliminary investigation, adding that he was on his way to inspect the site.

Police sources suspect a possible connection between the explosion and a previous ransom call allegedly linked to a Lashkar-e-Taiba operative. On February 21, an unidentified caller demanded Rs. 10 crore from Jandu Constructions, leading to the arrest of four individuals. However, the main accused still remains at large.

This is not the first time the company has faced trouble. In December 2024, two of its drivers were kidnapped in Manipur, allegedly by an NSCN faction, before being rescued by Cachar Police in January this year.

With repeated threats and now an explosion, the safety concerns surrounding Jandu Constructions’ operations in the region continue to grow. Investigations into the latest incident are ongoing.
