Bomb Threat at Hailakandi District Court; SSP Says Hoax
Panic was reported at the Hailakandi District and Sessions Court on Wednesday (January 7) after an email threatening a bomb blast was received at the court’s official email address. The threat message claimed that explosive devices had been planted inside the court premises, triggering immediate security measures.
Following the receipt of the email, the District Judicial Court premises were placed under tight security, and police teams, along with cybercrime units, rushed to the spot to assess the situation.
Confirming the development, Senior Superintendent of Police, Hailakandi, Amitabh Sinha said, “It appears to be a hoax. We have to verify the mail. Verification is still going on. At this moment, we can not say anything else.”
Police sources stated that although the threat is being treated seriously, preliminary assessment suggests it is not genuine. However, authorities are still verifying the mail and tracing its root.
Such threat emails are often sent with the intention of creating fear, disrupting public institutions, or drawing attention to certain demands. In many cases, these messages contain exaggerated claims, vague details, or sensational language.
The email, sent from a personal Hotmail account under the name Arundale Kumar, was addressed to the official Gmail account of the Hailakandi District and Sessions Court, with copies sent to other recipients. The message claimed that three RDX explosive devices had been placed inside the court building and warned of a human suicide blast if the demands were not met.
It stated that the alleged motive was to implement the 1979 Nainar Das Police Union recommendations in Tamil Nadu, claiming that constables in that state were being humiliated. The email named political figures and groups in an attempt to justify the threat and demanded immediate action, while instructing the evacuation of students and staff before the stated time of the blasts.
