Breaking: Clash Erupts at ISTT Counting Zone, Police and Supporter Injured, Four Detained

A violent clash broke out on Sunday afternoon at the Inter-State Truck Terminus (ISTT) in Ramnagar, Silchar, where vote counting for the recently concluded panchayat elections is currently underway. The altercation erupted between supporters of two independent candidates from the Chengkuri area under Tapang Zilla Parishad, Borkhola constituency.

According to reports, the scuffle broke out after one candidate gained a narrow lead of just 12 votes, leading to a heated argument that quickly escalated into physical violence.

During the incident, a police constable and a supporter, identified as Chandrasen Das, sustained serious injuries.

Doctors stationed at the counting centre immediately attended to the injured, checking their vitals and administering first aid.

Police have detained four individuals in connection with the clash.

Security has been tightened at the venue to prevent further escalation, and officials have assured that the counting process will continue under strict supervision.
