Breaking News: NRC final draft to be published on July 30; Supreme Court agrees to extend deadline

The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to extend the deadline for publishing the final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) till July 30. The court had earlier directed the State to publish the final draft by June 30, 2018. Barakbulletin.com’s correspondent spoke to state coordinator of NRC in Assam Prateek Hajela, and he said, “We are certain that we will be able to publish the final draft by July 30, 2018.”

The first draft, which was published on January 1, verified 1.9 crore people out 3.29 crore applicants.

Few days back, South Assam got heavily affected by flood and various parts of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi district was under water. Hajela told us back then that the flood has come as a major road block for NRC proceedings. He mentioned that he would appeal to the Supreme Court of India for a deadline extension.
