Breaking: Senior Assistant of Revenue Department Caught Red Handed for Accepting Bribe, Raid in DC Office
In a dramatic operation, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption nabbed a Senior Assistant from the Revenue Department at the District Commissioner’s office in Cachar. The official, Soumya Kanti Bhattacharjee, was caught red-handed on Wednesday for accepting a bribe in exchange for providing a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
Acting on a tip-off, the vigilance team launched a mission to trap Bhattacharjee, who had demanded 12,000 rupees to issue a land-related NOC. The operation unfolded as Bhattacharjee accepted an advance of 2,000 rupees.
The anti-corruption team marked the money with a special chemical, and upon testing, the chemical reaction confirmed the bribe transaction, causing the liquid used to test Bhattacharjee’s hands to turn red.
Bhattacharjee’s arrest followed swiftly, and he will face due legal proceedings. Despite having the authority to issue the NOC upon verifying the necessary documents and collecting the standard application fees, Bhattacharjee’s demand for additional money highlighted the ongoing corruption within the department that too within the Office of the District Commissioner.
