Broken branch of a tree falls on top of an E-rickshaw in Silchar; Driver rushed to hospital

A tried that had aged and dried fell at the heart of the town and blocked the road right in front of Sishu Tirtha High School. The large tree has been dry and at risk of falling down for months. Late afternoon today, a large tree branch broke and fell right across PWD Road on top of an e-rickshaw that was plying with passengers. The driver was injured in the accident. Apart from the E-rickshaw, other vehicles also got damaged.

The tree broke off from the compound of Desha Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan High School on the PWD Road of Silchar. It broke and fell right above a running e-rickshaw. The weight of the branches damaged the entire front part of the vehicle and the driver was also severely injured. Pieces of broken glass went through his legs. The driver was then rushed to the hospital.

The e-rickshaw also had two passengers who didn’t suffer any injuries. The bonnet of a parked Alto 800 was badly damaged, which was also on the spot. Personnel from SDRF and Assam Police rushed to the site to bring the situation under control.
