Buffalo Worth Lakhs Electrocuted, Case Filed Against APDCL in Cachar

A buffalo worth lakhs of rupees was electrocuted on Friday morning in Dhanhari village of Sonai area in Cachar, leading to a tragic incident. Another buffalo and its owner, Samsur Uddin, narrowly escaped unharmed. Following the incident, the owner filed a case with the Sonai Police Station after the postmortem of the buffalo was completed. The case was lodged against the electricity department.

Reports indicate that the electricity department had connected the main electricity line to the house using PVC wire and iron poles, spanning approximately 200 meters. It is believed that the accident occurred due to a break in the PVC wire, which allowed electricity to flow through the iron poles into the ground. The iron electric pole began conducting electricity, posing a significant threat to the lives of people and cattle in the area.

On the morning of the incident, as Samsur was leaving the house with his buffalo, the first buffalo was electrocuted. Another buffalo and Samsur managed to escape the electric shock. Samsur’s son stated, “My father narrowly escaped electrocution, but our buffalo died from the electric shock due to the negligence of the electricity department. When we went to file a complaint with the police, we were initially denied, but after conducting the postmortem of the buffalo, we filed another complaint with the postmortem report.”

Local residents have blamed the departmental lineman for this tragic accident. They questioned how the lineman could connect the electricity line using PVC wire and iron poles over such a distance. There is a pond near the iron poles, and if electricity had flowed into the water, it could have caused a major disaster.

GP Sabha’s representative, Shamsul Islam Barbhuiya, directly blamed the APDCL lineman and the Sub Divisional Officer of APDCL for the incident. He stated that the incident occurred because the electricity connection was temporarily set up using iron poles. Nazirul Haque, the son of the buffalo owner, alleged that although the government had provided concrete poles to every household, they did not receive any. He claimed that the departmental lineman did not provide them with concrete poles and instead asked them to buy their own.

It has been reported that the buffalo owner has filed a written complaint against the electricity department. Police and veterinary department officials have rushed to the scene to investigate.
