BUKSS: Aniruddha Laskar’s masterclass batting, Amalava Das’ all-round performance secure victory for Friends Of The Earth and Ganashakti

Barak Upatyaka Kreeda Sangbadik Sangstha (BUKSS) organised Jookto Media Cricket’s competitive rounds began today at Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium in Silchar. In the first match, Trinoyoni Khabar Heroes won the toss and asked Ganashakti Media Panthers to bat first. Panthers’ innings got off to a steady start as opener Abhijit Bhattacharjee played the anchor’s role. After scoring 23 runs of 32 balls he got retired hurt. 

Captain Amalava Das socred 23 and played the finisher’s role for Ganashakti and took his team to a total of 83 runs at the end of 15 overs. Trinoyonee Khabar Heroes captain Avijit Deb bowled the best spell for his team and picked up three wickets.

Chasing 83, the Heroes got off to a quick start but kept losing wickets to silly shots. Shibananda Singh picked up two wickets for Ganashakti and Amalava pitched in with one to break the backbone of Trinoyonee innings who went on to lose the game by 16 runs.

The second match of the day was between Budhu’s Media – Hailakandi and Friends Of the Earth. The media team from Hailakandi won the toss and decided to bat first. Sayan Biswas and Bapon Goswami managed to send the openers back to the pavilion early giving Friends Of The Earth a good start. But Sayan Biswas’s expensive third over, turned the game for the Hailakandi team. Anupam Singh, Mandeep Malakar and Joydeep Malakar batted well to take their team to the highest score of the tournament 123 runs at the end of 15 overs.

The spectators on the ground were tensed as Hailakandi had an edge in the inter-district rivalry. Then came the batting masterclass from Aniruddha Laskar. In the first over of the innings, Laskar managed to hit six consecutive boundaries in six balls. The 24-run over brought the momentum back in favour of Friends Of The Earth and Laskar did not look back and went on to score 76 runs of 34 deliveries. He was well supported by Manoj Roy (13) and Ruhul Laskar (22) and Friends Of The Earth successfully chased the total in 12.5 overs.

The first day saw a lot of excitement among the audience and they were entertained by Dr. Himabrata Das and Anirban Jyoti Gupta with their live bilingual commentary.
