BUKSS organised Media Cricket Fest to kickoff today; “Final under lights,” Biswanath Hazam

The media fraternity eagerly awaits for the Media Cricket Fest to begin. This is the tournament where the media personnel including people employed by media organisations across functions like reporting, publishing among others, tussle it out among themselves to win the coveted championship.

Oraganised by Barak Upatyaka Kreeda Sangbadik Songstha (BUKSS), the leather-ball cricket tournament will have six teams in the 2023 edition. All the media personnel from Silchar have been drawn in the four teams segregated on a franchise basis. Karimganj and Hailakandi will field their respective teams making it a six-team competition.

The tournament will kickstart today with Malin Sarma Khobor Heroes taking on Shib Durga Panthers. In the second match of the day, Karimganj will take on the Bishnupriya Roy Press Fighters. The remaining teams are, Hailakandi and Rosekandi Press Fighters.

“This year the final will be played under the flood-lights,” informed BUKSS’ Central Committee Secretary, Biswanath Hazam. He added, “I thank our sponsors – Purvanchan Pratidin, all the media houses and individuals who have extended their support. Without their sponsorship and support, it would have been impossible to mount the tournament at this scale.”

Hazam also informed that this year, BUKSS will pay tribute to late Sudarshan Gupta who is also the founder of news publicaton, Way2Barak, Ruhul Amin – a media personnel who breathed his last recently and media stalwart of this region, Jyotilal Choudury. “All of them have made significant contributions to BUKSS media cricket in the last 11 years. Professor Gupta used be the spark of joy during the tournament. He sportingly wore the super-sub jersey, did commentary and stayed invoved with the tournament without being an active participant as a player. Ruhul Amin, on the other hand, was a regular player and in fact, it will be weird to not have him around playing for one of the teams this year. So we have taken some initiatives to pay tribute to them as they have left for heavenly abode,” added secretary Hazam. On the eve of the opening day, the organisers handed over jerseys to the representatives of all six teams.

The final match will be played on Feb 5 “I invite everyone to join us for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as for the matches during the league and knockout stages. While none of our players are professional cricketers, the competition among themselves is something that is worth witnessing. We hope to host a lot of spectators this year,” concluded Hazam.
