Burglary Worth Over Rs. 15 Lakh at Kalain Tarapur, Police Investigation Yields No Clue
A major burglary took place at Kalain Tarapur on Monday night (November 10), where thieves broke into a house and looted gold ornaments and other valuables worth over Rs. 15 lakh. The incident has triggered concern among residents about the rising criminal activities in the area.
According to police, the house belongs to Rahim Uddin Laskar, a businessman from Kalain Tarapur who currently stays in Meghalaya. His house was rented to a family, but they had gone to their native place on Sunday. Taking advantage of the empty house, the thieves struck on Monday night.
They broke the door lock, entered the house, and ransacked every room. The thieves looted gold ornaments, a gas cylinder, a converter, a battery, and several other valuable items. The incident came to light on Tuesday when a mason arrived for work and found the door lock broken. He immediately informed Rahim Uddin Laskar, who rushed from Meghalaya and informed the police.
A team from Kalain Police Station, located only half a kilometre away, reached the spot and began the investigation. A sniffer dog was also used, but failed to trace any leads.
Speaking to the media, the house owner said, “Nothing was left. The thief took everything. I do not stay here; a tenant stays at the premises, but they went home yesterday and could not return. I have been staying here since 2008, and such an incident has never happened before.”
The burglary has created panic in the locality. Concerns have been raised over the fact that Rahim’s residence is only half a kilometre away from the police station, yet a theft of such magnitude took place. This has raised questions about the role and effectiveness of the police in the area.
