Cachar Administration initiates surprise raids, collects Rs 15 lakh as pending taxes from 200 trucks
As per directive received from deputy commissioner Cachar Keerthi Jalli , Executive Magistrate, Kishan Chorei along with enforcement officials and police personnel reached salchapra railway yard loading point. After reaching the spot they have found that around 200 trucks were being loaded and upon checking, the majority of the truck drivers failed to produce the valid documents for transportation.
The truck owners were asked to pay pending taxes through online banking and the owners also cooperated with officials who conducted the tax collection drive and paid taxes duly.
Although due to server failure many owners couldn’t pay taxes right away. It is to be mentioned that Salchapra truck owners coordination committee has ensured by submitting an undertaking to DC Cachar that whoever is left out without paying taxes will pay taxes within next week by detailed truck numbers as well. The truck owners have also assured that without clearance of taxes no truck carrier will be allowed for loading under their union.
Sharing her reaction , Deputy Commissioner said that she is very happy that they could contribute to Govt revenues. She also added that many such surprise raids are being planned further. She made an appeal to all the vehicle owners, with Cachar being a major transit market to ensure their vehicles bear valid documents.
Executive Magistrate, Kishan Chorei who was in charge of the drive, which was carried out on Monday, said “As an Executive Magistrate I have followed the instruction of DC Cachar and asked the transport officials to join me at Salchapra railway yard loading point, the job was to check the required documents against each truck and driver”.
“Upon checking,we came to know that many trucks which are in movement were without proper documents. Hence, we restricted those trucks for transportation” He added
“I would like to thank our Deputy commissioner Cachar Keerthi Jalli , District Transport Officer, other officials as well as the president and the secretary of Salchapra truck owners coordination committee and F.C.I divisional manager for their cooperation in conducting the operation with peace and tranquility,I hope Salchapra truck owners coordination committee will pay their due taxes within their proposed time” said, Executive Magistrate, Kishan Chorei.
