Cachar administration shuts two grocery shops for incorrect stock position, pricing
Pandemic is a crisis for most of humankind but an unmissable opportunity for some. In Assam, all shops are restricted to shut by 11:00 am. Naturally, that has triggered panic-buying behaviour among the general public. People are also hoarding essentials at home. This has resulted in rising demand.
As demand rose, the grocery stores in Silchar have started artificially hiking the price of essential commodities. Two such grocery stores were shut today by the Supply Inspector after random visits to different wholesalers and retailers shop. The supply inspector found that the stock position, price is not correct on inspection.
The two stores are Modern Store ran by Tayabur Rahman Choudhury and R.S.Enterprise operated by Bahahul lslam. Both the stores are located in Court Bazar Road, Sadarghat.
Speaking with Barak Bulletin, the deputy commissioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli said, “A team has been visiting markets regularly to curb the menace of artificial rise in prices. Some action has already been taken and we will continue to do so regularly. We are confident that regular checks will ensure prices don’t fluctuate too much.”
