Cachar Administration Takes 35 Girl Students On Exposure Tour To NIT Silchar Under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao

In a move to empower young minds and ignite aspirations in the field of science and technology, the District Administration, Cachar, in collaboration with the Department of Women and Child Development and Mission Shakti, organised an exposure tour to the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar for girl students on Friday (August 22). The initiative, held under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme, aimed to motivate students to pursue careers in STEM disciplines and discover the endless possibilities in innovation and research.

Before flagging off the tour, District Commissioner Mridul Yadav addressed the gathering, underlining the significance of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative in shaping a progressive society. “Empowering girls through education is not just a policy; it is a mission for building an equitable future. Opportunities like these enable our young daughters to dream big, challenge stereotypes, and succeed in every sphere, including science and technology,” he said, encouraging students to make the most of the experience.

The tour was formally flagged off by DC Mridul Yadav, IAS, along with Additional District Commissioner (Women & Child Development) Phyllis V.L. Hmunsiami Hrangchal, ACS, and Assistant Commissioner & In-charge District Social Welfare Officer Deepa Das, ACS. A total of 35 students from leading government schools of Silchar, including D.N.N.K. Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Dr. B.C. Roy Memorial Academy and C.L. Seth Institute participated in this inspiring visit.

The event also saw active involvement of the Social Welfare Department staff and interns from Assam University’s Department of Social Work, who guided and interacted with the students during the programme. The participants explored various academic and research facilities at NIT Silchar, gaining first-hand exposure to advanced technologies and academic pathways in engineering and the sciences.

Officials expressed confidence that such programmes would go a long way in nurturing future scientists, engineers, and innovators from the region, aligning with the government’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment through education.
