Cachar Congress rally: “Modi uses ED, Income Tax to harass people who write and talk against him,” says Sushmita Dev
Fighting heavy rainfall, around 200 people gathered in front of Khudiram Bose’s statue in Silchar today to participate in District Congress’ protest against Rafale deal and rising fuel prices. Apart from common people and party workers, member of parliament, Sushmita Dev, District (Zila) Congress president, Pradip Dey, former state minister, Ajit Singh were also present.
While addressing the rally, Silchar MP Sushmita Dev took a jibe at Narendra Modi, linking him with Rafale scam she says, “We will inform the women of India, the students, shop owners, poor people and common people of the country that Narendra Modi government is linked with a one lakh thirty thousand crore rupees scam.” She went on to accuse Prime Minister Modi of using government agencies to harass people who write and voice against him and his government, “No newspapers or magazines write about the massive Rafale scam. Because the moment you write against Modi or his government, ED, Income Tax starts raiding your house and harassing you,” says Dev.
Zila Congress president Pradip Dey brought local leaders and politicians in his speech and accused them of hypocrisy, “Whenever there was a rise fuel price in India during the Congress and UPA regime, Dilip Paul, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj used to wear garlands made of onion and potato (Aloo Pyaaj er maala) and protest all across the country. Where are they today? Where is Dilip Paul,” questioned Dey
2019 elections is knocking at the door and it looks like Congress has already kicked off its campaign. But is Rafale an issue local enough in Barak Valley for Congress to campaign on? Remains to be seen…
