Cachar Court Sentences Drug Trafficker To 10 Years In Jail Under NDPS Act

In a major conviction under the NDPS Act, Cachar’s Special Judge Biprajit Roy on Wednesday (July 30) sentenced a drug trafficker to 10 years of rigorous Imprisonment, after 7 years. The convict identified as Abul Hussain (48), is a resident of Fulertal Hill Punji (Hmarkhawlien) under Lakhipur Police Station in Cachar district.

According to officials, the case dates back to August 29, 2018, when the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized a huge consignment of narcotic substance, methamphetamine tablets, from Hussain’s residence. The tablets, weighing 3.710 kg, were valued at over Rs. 3.5 crore in the illicit narcotics market at the time.

Based on a tip-off, DRI officials raided Hussain’s house and recovered the contraband concealed inside the kitchen.

Following a prolonged investigation, the case went to trial, culminating in Wednesday’s verdict.

The court found Abul Hussain guilty under Section 22(C) of the NDPS Act and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 1 lakh.

In default of payment, he will have to serve an additional three months in prison.
