Cachar DC holds meeting to combat Dengue; issues Dos and Don’ts

The National Centre for Vector Borne Diseases control and the District Health Society of Assam has issued a dengue prevention bulletin today. This was declared as the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar has held a meeting to review the preparedness of the district for dengue management. In the light of the recent rise in cases of dengue in the state, the meeting was held.

In the meeting held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, IAS Rohan Kumar Jha directed the health team to expedite the surveillance and awareness activities, along with source reduction activities in Silchar municipal area and in rural areas as well. He further instructed that to utilise the service of Anganwadi workers, ASHA and other welfare services for Dengue preparedness in the identified pockets of the district. Health advisory has also been issued for school children.

The various Dos and Don’ts issued in the bulletin are as follows:

Dos

* Keep all water tanks and containers closed with valves or covers.
* Keep the water in the air conditioner and cooler clean.
* To keep mosquitoes at bay, put mesh nets on doors and windows.
* Dispose of all unused containers, coconut shells etc.
* Change the water of the flower vase, tree pots etc every week
* Keep the toilet seat covered after use.
* Wear full sleeves to protect from mosquito bites.
* Use mosquito repellents to get rid of mosquito bites.
* Use mosquito nets while sleeping during the day and night.

Don’ts

* Do not allow water to accumulate in and around coolers, buckets, barrels, flower pots, trays, coconut shells etc.
* Do not throw away broken utensils, unused bottles, tins, old tires and other unused containers as these are breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
