Cachar District Administration Creates Sand Art to Promote Upcoming Assam Assembly Elections

The Cachar District Administration is gearing up its preparation for the upcoming Assam Vidhan Sabha election.

Earlier, we witnessed the District Administration taking up measures like the record-breaking 8 km long rangoli and the VOTE-JI smartphone app to entertain and aware the voters about the assembly election.

This time, the Cachar District took up another initiative programme to encourage the voters ahead of assembly elections. They’ve created sand art along the bank of Barak river at Dudhpatil Part V opposite to Annapurna Ferry ghat on Sunday. This Sand Art festival is the first of its kind in the history of Cachar.

Cachar Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli inaugurated the event in the presence of Assistant Commissioner Cachar, Vibhor Agarwal, and Circle Officer attached to Sonai Bikash Chhetri, ALRS who is also the Nodal Officer of SVEEP campaign.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Keerthi Jalli said, “Under the umbrella programme of Garv Cachar for voter awareness, we are celebrating all the elements that make Cachar special to remind our voters that voting as a right is not just our pride but our legacy too. We celebrated Earth of Cachar through Rangoli. We are celebrating the environment today through Sand Art festival. Interestingly, tomorrow is also World Water Day with the theme ‘valuing water’ which we want to promote as well. Keeping in line with the Nari Shakti theme, we wanted Mishti to take the centre stage saying please vote so that I can have a bright future – a future where girls are educated, employed and empowered.”

Appreciating the SVEEP team, Keerthi Jalli said, “They did a fantastic job. A big number of footfalls have come. All the artists who have come forward have only proved that art conquers all”.

As part of the programme, artistes started making work of sand art from 5 am on the banks of the river Barak. The artistes painted pictures on the bank of the river which was a joint venture of SVEEP Cell and Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with Surmita Art Gallery, Group of Colors, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mahila Shakti Kendra and students of the Fine Arts Department of Assam University.

On that day, the artistes made various pictures on voter awareness and on the theme of Nari shakti with sand and paint. The Deputy Commissioner also took part in it. A picture was made on the SDRF as well as a sand sculpture was also carved on the theme ‘Garv Cachar’.

Four groups of artistes comprising 30 in all did these works. Government officials were also present to watch the sand art and the feat has generated a lot of interest amongst the locals.
