Cachar: In-Laws Kill Housewife, Stages as Suicide Alleges Family; Husband Flees

In a tragic incident, the body of a 24-year-old housewife, Kulsum Begum Majarbhuiya, was found hanging under suspicious circumstances at her in-laws’ home in the Rampur area of Borkhola in Cachar. The discovery was made by Borkhola police around 4 PM on Friday, prompting her family to rush to the scene and inform law enforcement.

Borkhola Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Rajesh Kumar Das, accompanied by Sub-Inspectors Gobinda Singh and Twinkle Kumhang, arrived with a team to launch an investigation into the matter.

Kulsum Begum’s father, Abdul Alim Barbhuiya, and her brother, Abdul Kadir Barbhuiya, alleged that she had been a victim of prolonged domestic abuse at the hands of her husband, Nahar Alam Majarbhuiya, also known as Munna. The family believes that her death was not a suicide but a premeditated murder staged to appear as one. They have demanded justice and a thorough investigation into the case.

“They tortured my sister both physically and mentally,” said Abdul Kadir Barbhuiya. “We saw multiple wounds and cuts on her body, including around her neck. We had visited her in-laws’ home a few days ago to take her back because of the abuse, but her mother-in-law promised things would improve. Now, they have tortured her to death and tried to stage it as a suicide.”

Adding to their suspicions, Abdul Kadir mentioned that when he and his father arrived at the scene, Nahar Alam Majarbhuiya, his sister, and his brother-in-law had fled.

OC Rajesh Kumar Das has assured the family that the investigation will be thorough, and the truth will come out once the post-mortem report is received.
