Cachar lady thrown out homeless by Nephew, knocks SP’s door, alleges inaction
A woman in her 70s was pushed out of her own home by her nephew. She now has resorted to begging and spending the nights at relatives’ houses, and lodged an FIR at the local police station against him. But “the OC of the police station sided with my nephew”, she alleged as the police failed to take action and restore justice for the aged lady, Sunarun Nessa Begum. This incident happened in the Kachudaram GP of Sonai in Cachar.
After the death of her husband, she started living at her ancestral home in the Kachudaram area by making a small house on her own. She resorted to begging to make both ends meet and have two meals a day. But recently, her only support, the shed above her head was snatched away from her nephew, Mirul Hussain Laskar and his wife Renu Begum.
Helplessly, she went to the police station and lodged a complaint against the nephew and his wife and also mentioned the name of the nephew’s brother-in-law Altaf Hussain Laskar. When police reached her residence for investigating the matter, they took no action against the accused. Altaf Hussain Laskar, who is a member of the Village Defence Party (organisation) has connections with the police and Sunarun Nessa has alleged that he “managed” the matter with the Officer-in-charge of the Kachudaram Police Station.
On Saturday, she broke into tears in front of the reporter’s camera while speaking about the injustice done to her. “This is my father’s property and he has left me the land and the house in my name, but now my nephew doesn’t let me enter my own house. He took away everything from me”, said the seventy-something-year-old Sunarun.
“I have filed a case but Altaf, my nephew’s brother-in-law has a nexus with the OC and hence the police are silent. Now they just make me run from post to pole and whenever the OC sees me coming, he hides away and doesn’t listen to me. I have also been to the SP Office, but from there they have asked me to visit this thana (Kachudarama Police Station) and they will do the needful but nothing happens. They (her nephew and his wife) beat me and took pushed me out of the house. Mirul Hussain (the brother-in-law) roams with the OC the whole day and never lets me meet the OC. I just want a shed over my head, I have all the property papers, the Khajna and everything but my home. I beg before the police officers to give back my home”.
