Cachar man sets himself on fire before walking into a Bandhan Bank branch; “Investigation is on,” SP

In a shocking turn of affairs, a Palonghat resident identified as Sujan Das has set himself on fire before running into Bandhan Bank branch in Masimpur Silchar.

According to available information, today morning, locals of Masimpur area saw a man setting himself on fire and before they could reach, he started running inside the branch. Eventually, the locals doused the fire and informed the Police.

He was rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital at around 12:30pm. Hospital sources informed that he was reported at the Casualty department and treating doctors diagnosed it as 100% burnt case. He was then, referred to the burn ward where at 2:30pm, he was declared dead. The body has been handed over to the Gunghoor Police Station, through whom it has been sent to Forensic Department for post mortem.

The doctors informed that the people who brought him to the hospital had eloped from the spot within moments after reaching. He could be identified at the hospital. However, the Investigating Officer confirmed that the individual has been identified as Sujan Das, aged between 30 to 35.

Cachar SP Ramandeep Kaur said, “Investigation is going on.” It is too early to speculate on the cause of death. So far, the Police got to know that he had joined a branch of Bandhan Bank on February 20, 2020. However, as per records, he resigned from the job on March 15, the same year. Investigating Officer said, these are records scanned after tracking the mobile number that they recovered from the spot.

The bank officials, on the other hand, suspiciously ran away from the spot after the incident. Additional SP of Cachar rushed to the spot after getting the information.
