Cachar POCSO Court Sentences Two Men to 5 Years for Molesting Minor Girl in Moving Auto
In a significant verdict, the Special POCSO Court in Cachar, presided over by Judge Narayan Kuri, has sentenced two individuals to a 5-year jail term for molesting a minor girl. On July 17 (Thursday), the court announced the judgement for auto-rickshaw driver Didarul Islam (40) of Tarinipur Part II and his accomplice, Bahar Uddin Raj Barbhuiya (35) of West Gobindapur Part III, both under Katigorah Police Station.
The incident dates back to September 10, 2017, when a 17-year-old girl from the Katigorah area boarded an auto from Chourangi around 10 a.m. to visit a relative in Fulbari. Didarul drove the vehicle, while Bahar Uddin was accompanying him. During the ride, near Gobindapur ME School, the duo allegedly began harassing the girl inside the vehicle.
When the victim raised an alarm, the accused reportedly threatened her and eventually pushed her out of the moving auto. The girl managed to run to a nearby house for safety. Meanwhile, the two men fled the scene with the vehicle.
Following the incident, the victim’s family lodged an FIR at Katigorah Police Station the same day. The police registered a case, launched an investigation, and identified the accused. Upon completion of the investigation, the case was brought to trial.
On Thursday, the court found both men guilty under Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and sentenced them to five years of imprisonment each, along with a fine of Rs. 20,000. In case of default on the fine, they will have to serve an additional six months in jail.
They were also convicted under Sections 506/34 of the Indian Penal Code for criminal intimidation and common intention, receiving an additional six-month sentence and a fine of Rs. 1,000 each. If the fine is not paid, they will serve an additional one-month sentence. Both sentences will run concurrently.
